The Michigan City Board of Public Works and Safety approved two two‑year agreements Jan. 20 with Sand Lovers LLC to manage the Singing Sands Festival and provide consulting services for 2026–27. Eric Williams, Special Events, said the event management contract (not to exceed $24,000 annually) covers on‑site staffing and event execution while the consulting contract (not to exceed $13,000 annually) covers recruiting sculptors and administrative tasks. Williams said Sand Lovers have organized the festival since its inception.
Williams told the board attendance has grown each year and estimated about 20,000 admissions last year, which he said “almost covers the entirety of the contract.” The board clarified the difference between management and consulting duties before a unanimous motion to approve.
The board also approved two silver sponsorships — $5,000 each — from High Street Insurance and Financial Services (a returning sponsor, formerly General Insurance) and Allegis Credit Union (new for 2026). Williams said sponsorships brought event revenue to roughly $60,000 of a $100,000 target for the season. The board voted to approve the contracts and sponsorships without public opposition.
