VDOT and county report progress on resurfacing, roundabouts and right‑of‑way work

Frasier explained how citizens should report maintenance issues to VDOT’s customer service center and described response routing, noting the CSC aims to provide replies within about 10 days and handles emergency routing differently. "Every opportunity I get to give a plug to our customer service center or CSC, I do so," Frasier said, and he gave the hotline routing and described area headquarters assignments.
Randy Hardman, Hanover Department of Public Works director, reviewed road and capital projects. He reported delays on the Route 301 third southbound lane because additional utilities were discovered during pre-construction and said the project is working through utility relocations. Shelly Drive paving was ready to begin with contractor engagement and Fall Line Trail construction was expected to finish within weeks. Hardman also outlined multiple roundabout projects (Lewistown Road, Atlee Road/Coal Harbor, Sliding Hill/Peaks/Ashcake/Mount Hermon) that are in varying design and right‑of‑way phases, and warned that right‑of‑way acquisition remains a long lead item for projects such as Pole Green widening (54 properties affected; 36 cleared so far).
Board members asked about proposed construction materials and detour strategies. Frasier said VDOT is exploring asphalt truck aprons in some roundabouts to reduce cure time and shorten detours, noting the approach has been used elsewhere and can be dyed or stamped to match aesthetics.
There were no formal actions on the transportation reports; board members asked staff to prepare more detailed maintenance-process information for citizens and to continue coordination on design and right‑of‑way timetables.
