"As you read in your staff report, they're requesting 81 acres that's zoned A-1 to be added to the AFD district," said Stephanie, the staff presenter. She described the request as consistent with the AFD’s purpose to "protect, support, preserve, and strengthen our agriculture" and said the parcel meets the committee’s listed criteria.
An unidentified committee member moved that the committee recommend approval to the planning commission; that motion (moved at the meeting by Speaker 9 and seconded by Speaker 6 in the transcript) was approved by voice vote after the chair called for the question. The motion text in the record cites "code 5 1 2 4300 of the Code of Virginia and the Greene County Agricultural and Forestry District Ordinance" as the basis for the recommendation. Staff told the committee the planning commission will hold a public hearing on the ordinance revision in December and the board likely will hear it at a later meeting in January.
