Sen. Tony Sorrentino asks committee to approve technical civil-procedure cleanup bill

Senator Tony Sorrentino introduced LB1100 to the Judiciary Committee on Jan. 30, saying the bill makes a narrow modernization to Nebraska's civil procedure statutes by removing the outdated term "hereafter" from the provision that establishes a single form of civil action under Neb. Rev. Stat. 25-101. "This is a technical cleanup bill only," Sorrentino said, adding that it does not change the substance of the statute or the unified civil procedure framework courts have used for decades.
Sorrentino told the committee he filed the bill in part to provide an organized starting point as the committee considers broader civil-procedure changes this session. Chairwoman Carolyn Bosin confirmed there were no proponents, opponents or neutral comments submitted online and no members of the public offered testimony during the hearing.
Because the bill is limited to phrasing changes, committee discussion focused on procedure rather than policy. No amendments were offered in the hearing and Senator Sorrentino closed his introduction when no committee questions were raised. The committee did not take a vote during the Jan. 30 hearing; the next procedural step would be consideration of any amendments and possible advancement to general file if the committee chooses to act.
