Board approves supplemental funding for prosecutor’s office and elections office; reappointments move forward

At its Jan. 28 meeting the Frederick County Board of Supervisors approved two finance committee recommendations for supplemental appropriations and completed several routine appointments.
Finance committee reported that a $446,550 general fund supplemental appropriation will add an assistant deputy commonwealth attorney; the Virginia Compensation Board will fund part of the position and the county’s contribution is approximately $46,000. The board approved the committee recommendation by roll call.
The board also approved a $75,000 general fund supplemental appropriation to renovate the elections office. Staff said initial bids for the renovation had come in as high as $256,000 and $325,000 in earlier rounds; the finance committee and supervisors who reviewed the proposal said $75,000 should allow staff to prepare specific bid documents and accomplish the core renovation scope, with an option to add $15,000–$20,000 later if bids come in higher. A member of the public, Blaine Dunn, asked supervisors to ensure the renovation would include necessary plumbing and HVAC work.
The board approved multiple reappointments and nominations to local boards and councils by voice vote, including a four‑year reappointment of Rhett Champagne to the Winchester Regional Airport Authority and reappointments to the Extension Leadership Council.
