The Fauquier County Board of Supervisors approved a resolution Jan. 15 to amend the FY2026 adopted budget by appropriating $7.5 million from the general fund balance to the school division.
A staff presenter identified in the transcript as Ms. Scribe outlined the transfers: "This resolution appropriates 7.5 million dollars to the school division operating fund from general fund balance, of which $5,700,000 will be transferred to the school division asset fund and $1,790,000 will be transferred to the school division's health insurance fund," she said. The presenter also said the resolution appropriates $65,000 in state funds from the Virginia Department of Education for a school security grant and notes a $16,000 local match from the school's operating fund.
After opening and recording no public speakers for the hearing, a board member moved to approve the resolution and the motion was seconded. The board approved the amendment by voice vote with members answering "aye;" no opposing votes were recorded in the transcript. The chair subsequently announced, "Motion carries." The board did not attach additional conditions to the appropriation during the Jan. 15 meeting.
Fiscal details in the item identify the source as general fund balance and the state security grant as coming from the Virginia Department of Education.
