Fauquier County planning staff advance wide-ranging comprehensive plan updates to supervisors

Planning staff told the Fauquier County Planning Commission on Jan. 21 that proposed comprehensive plan amendments would reorganize the document, add a new planning-and-land-use chapter and remove older, redundant chapters and appendices.
"Staff has conducted detailed analysis of each of these sections, provided recommendations for proposed changes and developed draft amendments for the Commission's consideration," staff said during the presentation. The draft adds Chapter 1B to consolidate resource inventories, land-use plans and infrastructure plans and moves some implementation guidance into a revised introduction.
Staff described the intent as improving clarity and ensuring the plan reflects the statutory minimum requirements and current county practices. The presentation said Chapters 4 and 5 and several appendices are out of date; portions of community design guidance will be folded into district plans or into the zoning ordinance as design standards.
Commissioners asked no members of the public came forward to speak during the hearing, and the commission voted unanimously to forward the draft amendments to the Board of Supervisors with a recommendation of approval.
If approved by the Board, the changes would reorganize how planning tools and district guidance are presented, and change where certain design policies are maintained (either in district plans or the zoning ordinance). The Board of Supervisors is scheduled to receive the commission's recommendation in February.
