Brunswick County warns of black ice after thaw; county offices to reopen at 10 a.m.

David McIntyre, Brunswick County’s emergency management director, urged residents to stay vigilant after recent snowfall as daytime thawing and overnight freezes raise the risk of black ice on sidewalks and roadways. "We will see temperatures drop back below freezing in the evenings and overnight," McIntyre said, and he warned that melting snow "will again freeze, and we'll continue to see some black ice."
McIntyre advised residents to limit time on the roads while the Department of Transportation prepares roadways as businesses reopen. "Try to limit your time on the roadways," he said, adding that walkways are slick as well. He acknowledged measures taken by local law enforcement, specifically naming Sheriff Chisholm, and thanked residents for following safety recommendations.
McIntyre assessed that the impacts from the storm "could have been a lot worse," crediting residents’ adherence to guidance for helping reduce harm during the incident. He also said county operations are transitioning back toward normal: county offices, which were closed today, will reopen tomorrow at 10:00 a.m., while schools will remain closed.
