Department of Buildings (representative Claquan) said illuminated signs can now be filed through DOB Now and that the energy-efficiency posting deadline for this year has been moved to Dec. 31 (a temporary shift for the current year). The representative reiterated Local Law 152 inspection-report cycles and warned that properties that do not submit required reports by Dec. 31 could face violations next year; staff offered follow-up support for veteran service organizations seeking leniency.
The Department of Transportation (Al Silvestri) urged the public to call 911 first when a traffic signal is out so police can manage the intersection, then call 311 to dispatch DOT emergency response; he also announced a community engagement meeting for the Brookville Boulevard study at PS 38 and described the Queens Waterfront Greenway federal grant-funded study as an early-phase, multi-community planning effort.
Parks representative Claudette Ramos reported rising safety incidents and illegal dumping at sites including Forest Park and asked boards to send chronic locations so Parks and NYPD can coordinate responses.
Department of Finance staffer Marco said the agency implemented automatic income verification to simplify renewals for senior homeowner exemptions (SHOE/DOF programs) so seniors will no longer need to resubmit full tax returns on each renewal; he reminded the board of March 15 renewal deadlines (adjusted if falling on a weekend or holiday) and said Enhanced STAR processing now goes through New York State Taxation and Finance.
Board members raised concerns about fines for veteran service organizations, Local Law 152s scope for accessory garages, and grease-disposal reporting; agencies offered follow-up and agreed to provide education and targeted outreach where enforcement is not required or where community concerns indicate operational fixes.
