Flower Hill board enacts Local Law 6 of 2024 to amend tree-permit thresholds and require replanting

At a public hearing Oct. 7 the Village of Flower Hill board moved and voted to enact Local Law 6 of 2024, amending chapter 219-2 of the village code to clarify tree-permit thresholds and add a replanting requirement.
Under the enacted language as presented to the board, specimen trees are defined as having a diameter of 2.5 inches or greater, all evergreen trees a diameter of 4.5 inches or greater, and deciduous trees a diameter of 6 inches or greater. The law also requires replanting when a permitted tree is removed; a six-month inspection will verify the replacement is established and a $1,000 deposit will be refunded to the homeowner if the replanting meets the standard.
Village attorneys and trustees said the replanting deposit and inspection requirement are consistent with existing code practice. The board recorded a voice vote in favor after opening the hearing and hearing no public comments.
