Summary
Board approved an intercom project with Forward Edge, internal door access control and awarded the media‑center renovation bid after a facilities update showing a roughly $55 million long‑range need and a 1–2 year priority column near $18.9 million.
The Grayslake CCSD 46 board on Jan. 28 approved multiple facilities projects and accepted updated long‑range planning information from district consultants.
Matt Burton of World Architects and Engineers gave an update on the district’s long‑range facilities plan, saying the district is consolidating prior scope items into a single tracking spreadsheet. Burton reported a total long‑range cost of roughly $55 million and said an added "educational adequacy" line of about $11.5 million accounts for much of the increase compared with the prior estimate. He told the board that the first 1–2 year priority column sits at about $18.9 million and that firm bid results for the first four media‑center renovations are in hand.
Burton also clarified a state Department of Commerce and Economic Opportunity (DECO) grant of about $451,000 for exterior improvements. "That grant covers... exterior improvements," Burton said, and staff explained the district plans to bid core grant‑eligible work and include alternates to capture additional scope while contractors are on site.
After discussion, the board voted on several action items. The board upheld a student suspension (motion carried; one abstention) and approved vendor contracts and bid awards for facility work. The board approved an intercom project with Forward Edge and authorized access control for internal doors as presented. The board also approved awarding the bid for media‑center renovations at Frederick, Meadowview, Park and Prairie View; one trustee said she was voting aye but expressed concern about approving substantial expenditures given current projections.
Trustees asked staff to continue refining the long‑range plan and to monitor O&M and other line items as bid results and grant details firm up. Staff noted that O&M funds and the DECO grant are being counted alongside bond proceeds and that the district will return with more granular line‑item reporting and updated projections as bids are finalized.
