Manhasset resident raises covenant and safety concerns over EV chargers installed in Apple parking lot

"These things are already installed. I don't know how far away they are from going live," LaRae said. He asked the board to review whether the chargers constitute structures under the covenants and to evaluate proximity to nearby residences, noting that 24/7 chargers and lithium batteries raise special fire‑safety concerns.
Supervisor DeSena acknowledged the covenant history and said staff would meet with the town attorney; the supervisor noted the town is installing EV chargers in town parks but that chargers located on private commercial properties raise different legal and zoning questions.
LaRae also asked about security and proximity to homes. Town staff confirmed a meeting was scheduled with town attorney staff to review the restrictive covenants and determine next steps.
