The North Hempstead Town Board on May 13 approved a site plan and a special‑use permit for a proposed 14,820‑square‑foot CVS at 3366–3380 Hillside Avenue in New Hyde Park, including a drive‑through lane and a required revised landscaping plan for Herrick’s Road.
Andrea Curdo, attorney for the applicant, told the board the project would demolish three existing buildings and construct the new CVS with 59 parking spaces — 12 more than the code requires — and queuing space for eight vehicles at the drive‑through. Curdo said the retail hours would be 7 a.m.–11 p.m. and the pharmacy hours 7 a.m.–9 p.m.; she added deliveries would be limited to one full‑size truck per week during off‑peak hours and one or two small box deliveries per week.
Council members and residents questioned circulation and curb cuts on Hillside Avenue and Herrick’s Road and asked that landscaping on the Herrick’s Road frontage match the plantings proposed for Hillside Avenue. Councilman Adame moved an amendment requiring the applicant to submit a revised landscaping plan showing a row of shrubs adjacent to Herrick’s Road consistent in height and character with the Hillside Avenue plantings; Curdo said the applicant agreed and would submit a revised plan. The board approved the amendment by voice vote and then adopted the resolution as amended by unanimous voice vote.
The board also used the site‑plan record to consider the special‑use permit for the drive‑through and voted to close the hearing and adopt that resolution unanimously.
Planning‑period materials submitted by the applicant include a traffic report prepared by Mulrion Engineering and site plans showing on‑site loading and queuing areas; the applicant said the development would not change existing water or sewer usage or the number of employees at the site.
Next steps: the applicant will submit the revised landscaping plan to the planning department as required by the amendment.
