Hamilton Park residents ask North Hempstead to fix dangerous traffic at Herrick High School drop-off

Annette Goldberg Yosef, representing the Hamilton Park Civic Association, told the Town Board on March 4 that daily school drop-off and pick-up at Herrick High School has overwhelmed Hamilton Drive, producing unsafe conditions for residents and students.
She said as many as 80–100 cars use the single two-way street during arrival and dismissal times, blocking driveways, making U-turns and failing to obey stop signs. Goldberg Yosef said the school principal and superintendent were 'fully behind' a proposal to add a 'no stopping' sign on one curb to create one-way traffic flow through the alleyways that were originally intended for pedestrian access or reduced vehicle use.
Town staff and council members said the Department of Public Works requires an engineering traffic study before such signage is installed; Councilman Scott agreed to keep working with the neighborhood and the school to pursue the change.
No formal vote occurred; the board asked staff to facilitate meetings among the school, DPW and neighborhood representatives to advance a solution.
