Councilmember Mike Dora proposed Jan. 20 that the city resume removal of snow from public sidewalks. Dora asked staff to prepare a budget adjustment for the remainder of the fiscal year and present a proposal at the council’s next meeting (Feb. 2).
Multiple councilmembers voiced support, citing safety concerns for older residents who have had to walk in the street and the hazardous icy conditions following recent storms. Staff said a proposal will be prepared outlining what it would take and the anticipated budget impact; council did not take a formal vote but sought a staff proposal and budget adjustment for consideration.
Councilmembers and staff also noted warming centers and community safety resources available during cold weather, and encouraged residents to help direct people in need to those resources.
