The Grand Haven City Council voted Jan. 20 to approve a two‑year lease renewal with tenant Ashley Marsh for 2,640 square feet of space beneath the Department of Public Safety.
City staff said the square footage error had been corrected in the lease (the memo had transposed numbers) and that the lease includes a Consumer Price Index adjustment consistent with other city agreements. The lease includes options for either party to extend for additional two‑year terms by agreement and contains protections allowing the city to reclaim the space when needed for public‑safety use.
Council members asked whether planned build‑out for public‑safety use would interfere with the tenant; staff said there is not an exact construction timeline, that staff will release an RFP and pursue financing through millage funds when ready, and that the lease includes exit options if the city needs to reclaim the space. Council approved the lease extension by roll call.
Staff said they plan to return with a more formal plan for repurposing the space if and when the city advances construction.
