Becky Brooks elected board president as Tecumseh trustees organize committees for 2026

At the start of the meeting trustees completed their annual organizational business, electing Becky Brooks president of the Tecumseh Board of Education for the 2026 calendar year.

Mr. Simpson nominated Becky Brooks for president; the motion to elect Brooks passed by roll call, 5–2. After assuming the gavel, President Brooks nominated Lynn Davis for vice president; the board confirmed Davis by roll call. Christy Martinez was nominated and approved as secretary and Greg Lewis as treasurer (the treasurer vote recorded two nays; the remainder voted in favor).

Trustees also approved a procedural change to add a committee discussion item focused on whether the budget committee should operate as a committee of the whole. The motion to add that discussion to the agenda passed unanimously and the board agreed to consider the committee-of-the-whole proposal for the budget at the next meeting. Trustees debated scheduling and logistics — meeting start times, whether budget items require prior documentation, and how the change could improve transparency — and asked staff to return a plan to the board.

The organization and committee items precede the board’s substantive actions later in the meeting, including the approved pool demolition motion and acceptance of a McDonald's donation to the athletic department.
