The council held a public hearing and voted to amend Chapter 2, Article 2.04 Division 3 of the city code to add one at-large member to the Parks & Recreation Commission, increasing total membership from eight to nine and creating staggered terms to promote an odd-number voting body. Andrew Benz, director of Parks & Community Services, said the change would reduce quorum problems and improve voting dynamics. The council then considered and approved the at-large appointment of Ryan Strittmatter to a term ending June 30, 2026.
The motion to amend the ordinance and the subsequent appointment passed by voice votes. Council members noted commissions have had occasional attendance/quorum challenges and said the extra at-large seat should improve commission operations.
