The Dripping Springs City Council voted 3–2 on Aug. 19 to award Founders Memorial Park improvements to the low bidder and to authorize staff to finalize an agreement, after hearing site plans and a bid tabulation from city engineering staff.
City Engineer Chad Gilpin described the project scope—heavy-duty concrete pavement in the dumpster area, a CMU dumpster enclosure with a black-and-white paint scheme to match the pool house finish, and a speed-bump layout to calm traffic near the skate park. Gilpin told council that staff recommended the base bid and alternates that include the dumpster enclosure and speed‑bump work, reporting a recommended total award amount of $132,007.83. "They are the low bidder, Myers Construction," Gilpin said during the presentation.
Council questioned alternates, including a pool-storage area improvement that staff said could be handled either now or as part of a larger future pool-house project. Gilpin and Andy Benz said a smaller, lower-cost solution for an erosion/drainage issue near the pool house could also be pursued for roughly $10,000. During debate, council members expressed concern about cost escalation and whether to include certain alternates now or address them later via change order or a future project.
A motion to select Myers Concrete Construction for the Founders Memorial Park improvements and authorize staff to finalize an agreement passed on a 3–2 roll call. The contract award references the base bid plus selected alternates; staff expects to issue a notice to proceed on Sept. 2 and to complete construction by Oct. 31, weather permitting.
The meeting record notes dissent on the final vote; two council members opposed the motion.
