The Dripping Springs City Council on Oct. 21 authorized staff to submit a formal application to the Texas Water Development Board (TWDB) seeking $51,500,000 in financial participation for the South Regional wastewater expansion.
Staff said the project has an identified funding shortfall driven by an ongoing lawsuit (since 2019) and higher construction costs. The presenter noted the city advanced through an initial TWDB step and was invited to apply; the application team reported the city ranked roughly sixth in the earlier stage and will be part of a competitive selection the TWDB expects to complete in early 2026.
Chris Lane, the city’s financial advisor, was present and available for questions but staff said no special motion language was required to name her on the application. Council moved to authorize filing the application and to make findings in support of the submission; the motion passed by voice vote.
Staff said the TWDB process includes an invitation to formally apply and that awards — if made — would follow TWDB’s schedule (staff estimated possible award notification in February 2026). The council did not commit additional city matching funds in the public discussion; staff said an attached project budget is included with the application materials.
