The Scott County School District 2 board voted to continue the Jobs for America’s Graduates (JAG) program through the end of the 2025–26 school year at a district cost of $29,458 after the state eliminated support for the program.
Superintendent Dr. Nycomb explained the state cut funding at the end of calendar year 2025 and said many districts discontinued JAG immediately; the board chose to continue the program so current students can complete their work. A motion to allocate $29,458 from district funds was made, seconded and approved by voice vote.
The board also approved a resolution authorizing transfers between the operations fund and the self-insurance fund. The superintendent said mid-year transfers were made previously and that recent rate increases for board and employee contributions will take time to rebuild the self-insurance fund; the resolution was approved by the board.
Finally, the board updated professional development guidelines (not revised since 2013), raising per diem meal reimbursement to $75 per day and aligning the mileage reimbursement with the current federal rate. The motion to adopt the updated guidelines was approved.
All three actions were taken in the "other business" portion of the agenda; motions were seconded and passed by the board.
Next steps noted in the meeting: administration will continue monitoring the self-insurance fund and report back, and further planning on the JAG program’s status beyond 2025–26 remains under review depending on future funding.
