Iowa Senate adjourns until Feb. 2 after brief ceremonial session

Senator Klemish of Winneshiek moved "the Senate adjourn until Monday, February 2 at 1PM." The presiding officer called for those in favor to say "aye," heard several ayes and declared the motion prevailed by voice vote; no roll-call tally was recorded in the transcript.
The session opened with a prayer offered by Senator Shipley of Adams, who closed the prayer saying, "In Jesus' name we pray. Amen." Following the prayer the presiding officer led senators in the pledge of allegiance.
Senator Warmie of Story used the floor to introduce groups visiting the chamber. "Today is scouting day on the hill," Warmie said, identifying two Eagle Scouts in the gallery, Keegan Angus and Peter Thomas, and their scouting coordinator, Tim McLaughlin, and asking members to welcome them. Warmie also noted "Iowa has approximately 1,300 practicing PAs and five PA programs, training just over 200 students annually," and invited members to a Physician Assistants breakfast in the rotunda.
Senator Shipley announced that county supervisors from across Iowa were meeting at the Embassy Suites and invited senators to a noon lunch; she said, "there will be a shuttle bus running from 11:30 to 01:30." Senator Dickey promoted "Volunteer Firefighter Day on the Hill" and a chili cook-off scheduled from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m., saying 92% of those who protect communities are volunteers and noting his 34 years with the association.
Senator Kreinbrink introduced visiting French chefs involved in a culinary exchange with DMACC and welcomed his son-in-law, culinary instructor Timmy Jensen, among the guests in the gallery.
The Senate took no substantive legislative action during the recorded minutes beyond the unanimous voice vote to adjourn. The Senate is scheduled to reconvene Monday, Feb. 2, at 1 p.m.
