Fort Worth commission OKs alley vacation near West Seminary Drive (VA 25029)

The City Plan Commission on Jan. 29 voted to recommend vacation of portions of an alley north of West Seminary Drive and south of West Anthony Street (VA 25029), a parcel in Block 8 of the South Side Addition in Council District 11.

Staff described the current alley as terminating at the Union Pacific Railroad, creating a dead‑end condition. To avoid a terminated alley segment, the applicant has proposed rededicating the alley to the south, restoring continuous access to West Seminary Drive. Staff told commissioners this is principally a land consolidation for future commercial development and that no immediate plans for development were on file.

Christian Golubievsky, the applicant, told commissioners the proposed connector would be a paved parking lot tying into an existing driveway on the south side to allow easier utility access to power lines that remain in the alley. "That'll make really easy access for utility companies to access the... power lines that are still within the alley," he said.

Commission discussion focused on right‑of‑way ownership and an existing drainage channel. Staff confirmed a large drainage channel runs through the area and that an adjacent parcel is owned by another property owner.

Motion and vote: Commissioner Risher moved to approve the recommendation and Commissioner Gillette seconded. Michelle (staff) conducted roll call: Commissioners Adams, Lambert, Johnson, Henderson, Sims, Richer, Fisher, Gillette and Vice Chair Kranz voted yes. The motion passed unanimously among those present; staff will forward the recommendation to City Council.

The action is administrative in nature and will appear on city materials and the commission docket for public review.
