The Franklin Board of Public Works and Safety approved trade‑ins and a lease to replace police vehicles on Feb. 2. Street Commissioner Brett Jones presented a proposed trade‑in list for Franklin Police Department vehicles and said one vehicle (ending in 8756) would not be traded because the insurance company now owns it following an accident; insurance proceeds will be used toward replacements.
On financing, Jones presented Schedule 2 under the city's master lease with Crossroads Bank and said Crossroads returned the most competitive quote at a rate of 4.17% compared with a Municipal Finance offer at 5.74%. "It's about a 35,000 savings over the life of the lease," Jones said, noting the schedule covers 11 vehicles: 10 pursuit/upfitted units and one civilian administrative vehicle that will not be upfitted.
Board members approved the trade‑ins and the lease schedule by voice vote after motions and seconds. Jones said some of the equipment added to police vehicles (lights, control boxes, radios) typically have limited resale value at end of life but that radios and certain electronics can be removed and reused where appropriate. The board thanked staff for managing the procurement and leasing effort.
