The Franklin Board of Public Works and Safety approved three owner‑occupied rehabilitation contracts on Feb. 2 after a presentation from Whitney Cohen. Cohen told the board the program has obligated about two‑thirds of its construction budget and has approximately $100,000 remaining to allocate.
"We have obligated about two thirds of our construction budget. So we have about a $100,000 left," Whitney Cohen said while asking the board to move forward with the next three contracts. Cohen also said 14 households have participated in the program so far and that the board is getting closer to the program goal of assisting 20 homes; weather has slowed some projects.
A board member moved to approve the three owner‑occupied rehab grants and authorized the mayor to sign on the board’s behalf; the motion passed by unanimous voice vote. Cohen noted homeowners have not yet signed the contracts and the city will obtain homeowner and contractor signatures before the mayor signs the documents.
Board members agreed city administration may sign to keep the contracts moving if homeowners are not immediately available to sign, and staff will continue outreach to potential applicants.
