Franklin — The Board of Public Works and Safety voted to renew the city’s body‑camera contract with its existing vendor at a negotiated price of $694,999.97 for a five‑year term.
City attorney Lynn Gray described the procurement history: the original five‑year contract ended in November 2025, and the vendor initially proposed a renewal quote near $740,000. “Their original quote was $740,000 for 5 years, and their first contract with us that we began 5 years ago was for $673,373.60,” Gray said, adding that staff negotiated the newer figure. Gray told the board the city also solicited pricing from another widely used vendor, which indicated a proposal above $1,000,000.
Gray said the vendor offered a 63‑month form when presenting the renewal; staff negotiated to a 60‑month new contract while arranging payment for the three months covered under the old contract so the city did not pay the higher rate for service it had not yet received. Board members asked whether there had been any lapse in service; staff confirmed there had been none.
A board member moved to renew the sole‑source contract at $694,999 for five years; the motion was seconded and approved by voice vote.
Officials said the renewal includes new cameras, certain hardware and software updates and ongoing service; staff will return with the formal contract for execution.
