Board approves multiple PACE rehabilitation grants, an extension request and one final payment

Madison, Ind. ' The Board of Public Works and Safety approved several PACE rehabilitation grant applications and related items during its Feb. 2 meeting.

A PACE representative (speaker 11) presented new grant requests and described rehabilitation work and intended outcomes: 1063 West Main ($7,500) for siding and window replacement; 200 Ferry ($7,500) for window replacement to remove lead paint and improve egress; 757 Jefferson ($7,500) for repainting, window and deck work; 319 Craigmont ($25,000) for extensive siding, rewiring and window restoration; 526 Jefferson ($25,000) for structural repairs and rewiring with plans to operate as a long-term rental; and 611B Mulberry ($25,000) for masonry stabilization on a carriage-house structure. Board members noted historic-board approvals where required and discussed the program's ability to rescue dilapidated historic properties.

The board voted to approve the full slate of new PACE applications as presented.

PACE also requested a six-month extension for a midpoint at 612 Mulberry, asking to receive half of a $25,000 grant now ($12,500) while finish work continues; staff reported masonry and foundation repairs already completed and asked for an Aug. 2, 2026 completion date for the extension. The board approved the midpoint extension.

Finally, PACE presented a final payment request for 311 East Street (remaining $3,750 of a $7,500 grant) noting completed front-door and window replacements, retaining wall replacement and step repair; the board approved the final payment.

Next steps: PACE will continue to monitor projects for completion, work with the city on historic approvals where required, and process grant payments.
