Madison, Ind. ' The Board of Public Works and Safety on Feb. 2 approved two resolutions affecting downtown parking and event logistics: a handicap parking designation at 409 Broadway for Trinity Church and street and parking-space closings for Madison Main Street's Music in the Park series.
Staff presented Resolution 20 26-2 to create a handicap parking stall directly in front of 409 Broadway while Trinity Church occupies the property and said the space will revert to regular parking if the church leaves. "We are recommending the approval of that handicap spot," staff said. A board member noted there are no other handicap spaces on the block and that, given the length of the curb, only one accessible stall is feasible. The resolution passed on motion.
The board then considered Resolution 20 26-3, submitted at the request of Madison Main Street to reserve Central Avenue between 1st Street and Vaughn Drive for golf cart parking and to reserve specific spaces for resident and food-truck parking on June 12, July 10 and Aug. 14, 2026. Ed Ray introduced himself as President of Main Street and confirmed the closures match prior years' footprint. The board approved the resolution on motion.
Next steps: Street Department is authorized to install signs and traffic control devices necessary to implement the resolutions; Madison Main Street will be responsible for supervision and control of the closed areas during the events.
