DART budgets $18M for World Cup planning, plans extra rail and bus service

DART staff told the Transportation and Infrastructure Committee the agency has budgeted more than $18 million for World Cup operations next summer and plans to lean on high‑capacity modes and regional coordination to move visitors.
Dee Leggett, DART executive vice president and chief development officer, said DART will "lean heavily on our high capacity modes like bus and rail" and that the agency has leased additional rail vehicles to accommodate game‑day capacity. Leggett said TRE service will run every 30 minutes on game days from the Central Business District to CenterPort, where attendees will be offloaded to charter buses to carry them to stadium sites.
Leggett said DART has budgeted "over $18,000,000 to cover our World Cup related expenses," and that roughly $7.2 million of that is being partnered with the North Central Texas Council of Governments (NCTCOG); DART will seek additional regional and national funding partners.
DART said it will operate additional bus service in partnership with the Dallas Sports Commission and regional partners along I‑30 for overflow and will increase green‑line frequencies and capacity around Fan Fest. Staff also said customer information display systems and multilingual TVMs will be emphasized, and DART will promote the GoPass app for trip planning and contactless payment to simplify visitor travel.
DART emphasized coordination with airports, event organizers and local police to maintain service to regular riders while supporting large event demands.
