Court fills child-welfare board seats, extends sewage-center closing date and OKs equipment financing; architect selection tabled

Anderson County’s Commissioners Court moved through several administrative and action items on July 28, approving board appointments, a contract-closing amendment, equipment-financing authority and routine fees while tabling a selection for an expansion project.

Appointments: The court voted to remove Casey Gonzales and Brianna McKnight from the child welfare board and to appoint Stacy Whitware (not present), Tijuana Monroe and Nicole Freeman. Freeman briefly described moving to the county in November 2024 and a small-business background; Monroe said she operates Rose Transportation and is developing non-emergency medical transportation services. The court congratulated the new appointees and filled multiple vacancies on the board.

Sewage-center contract: Commissioners considered an amendment to the contract for the sewage center at 1819 West Spring Street, Palestine, Texas. Staff said the buyer’s original lender fell through during closing; a new lender required a broker’s price opinion. The court approved changing the closing date to on or before Aug. 18, 2025.

Equipment financing: Precinct 3 requested authorization to bid on a piece of road equipment and to obtain financing up to $170,000 so the precinct could secure the purchase and repay the construction budget. Commissioner Will Banks expressed concern about ensuring sufficient funds; commissioners authorized the request and allowed staff to obtain financing quotes.

Architect selection tabled: The court reviewed responses to a request for qualifications for an addition to the AgriLife Extension service (materials list an address as 519 North Sekulipauston, Texas). Commissioners said they had not completed scoring and agreed to table the selection so they could reconvene and mark scores at a later date.

Sheriff fees: The court received the sheriff’s fee schedule submitted for 2026 and approved it as presented.
