Commissioners approve updated Child Welfare Board bylaws and advisory MOU to allow 501(c)(3) fundraising

The Commissioners Court voted Dec. 1 to adopt updated bylaws for the Anderson County Child Welfare Board and to approve a memorandum of understanding establishing a separate advisory board that will operate as a 501(c)(3) to raise funds for children in need.
Mindy, chair of the Child Welfare Board, told the court the existing bylaws excluded kinship families and some youth aging out of the system; the updated documents expand the board's scope to help all Anderson County children in need. The advisory board will be able to accept donations and raise money outside the county budget to help families and youth who require immediate assistance.
Allison reviewed both documents for legal compliance and told the court they were within the law. Commissioner Mims moved to approve the updated bylaws; Commissioner Wilbanks seconded and the court approved both the bylaws and the MOU by voice vote.
Mindy said the advisory board will be announcing two new members at the next Commissioners Court meeting and that the group plans to coordinate with existing services to address emergency needs, such as families displaced from housing.
