Westfield Fire Department reports 12% rise in calls, 25% drop in residential care responses

Rob Gaylor of the Westfield Fire Department gave the Board of Works and Public Safety an overview of 2025 accomplishments and operational changes.
"We actually saw a 12% increase in our call volume from '24," Gaylor said, and later noted the department "ended with a 25% decrease in our calls for service to those residential care facilities." He described that reduction as a targeted success for the mayor's stated goals.
Gaylor said the department placed a ladder in service, took delivery of a new engine and completed upgrades so engines are ALS-capable. The department promoted personnel (seven engineers, five lieutenants, five captains and two battalion chiefs), graduated two fire academies with a 100% pass rate on the national registry EMT exam, and launched a pre-hospital blood transfusion program used on apparatus in Hamilton County.
Gaylor credited partnerships with the city and academic medical centers for training opportunities and said the changes improved care on high-acuity, low-volume calls. He closed by thanking the board for support on station groundbreakings, apparatus purchases and related contracts.
