The Utah Senate voted to consent to a large slate of gubernatorial appointments and reappointments transmitted by Gov. Spencer J. Cox. Committee chairs across education, natural resources and health reported favorable recommendations on various nominees before the body moved to adopt the committee reports and consent to appointments as read.
Appointments included, among others, Tommy Joe Lucia to the State Fair Park Authority; reappointments to the Board of Pardons and Parole; nominations to various technical college boards of trustees; and the appointment of Julie Ewing as the state Medicaid director, replacing Jennifer Strohecker. Several water-conservancy district trustee seats and members of the University of Utah Board of Trustees were also among those announced.
Senator Lincoln Fillmore moved to approve the committee reports and to consent to the appointments as presented. The roll-call on the consent motion recorded 24 yay votes, 1 nay and 4 absent, and the Senate declared the consents approved.
