County to update schedule of fees for outside entities; clerk estimates municipal election costs start near $1,500

Taylor Glover, the countys government affairs director, said staff plan to draft a resolution listing potential fees and bring it back to the commission; the attorneys office and other departments will be consulted on language. "Were gonna go the resolution route," Glover said, adding staff did not have a draft ready for the May 6 meeting.
County Clerk/Auditor Shamil Lam explained that election costs are variable and the county has historically charged actual costs rather than a flat time-based fee; past municipal election costs typically ranged about $1,500 to $2,500 depending on whether a primary is required and other ballot-related variables. "I don't anticipate it would be any less than that," Lam said, noting the county recently switched ballot vendors and must pre-order materials.
Commissioners discussed options: amend the countys annual schedule of fees by redline and resolution, or create a separate document for outside entities. Commissioners also asked for a "subject to availability" disclaimer to be included so that fees reflect actual staff availability. Staff will prepare redlined language for the commission to review at an upcoming meeting.
