Box Elder council approves abatements, bridge abutment contract and settlement

The Box Elder City Council on Feb. 4 approved multiple administrative and contract items, including tax abatements, a construction quote for bridge abutments and a settlement agreement reached in executive session.

The council approved three abatements from Pennington County presented by City Clerk Chazkokish. The items included a building-improvement reassessment and two tower properties that staff said are assessed as state utilities; staff recommended approval and the council voted in favor.

City Engineer Scott Lang recommended accepting a $26,000 quote from TrueForm Construction to place concrete abutments for the Foxborough pedestrian bridge. "We did request another quote from Timber Ridge. They were not able to respond, but the $26,000 was well within our budget limits and it's a good value for us," Lang said. Councilmember Davis moved to accept the quote and Schubert seconded; roll call recorded ayes and the motion passed.

After an executive session, the council approved a settlement agreement with Elite Custom Homes LLC and authorized the mayor to execute associated documents. The council voted to go into executive session earlier in the meeting and then took the settlement vote after returning; council recorded ayes and the motion passed.

Other routine business included adoption of committee recommendations that had been placed on the consent agenda. The meeting adjourned after councilmember motions to adjourn passed on voice vote.

The council did not take further public action on the PFAS clean-water line update; that item was informational and will return to council for agreement amendments and final details.
