"The way the 1¢ works though is we would have to then get a vote from the people in our community, and it has to pass by 60%," Knight told the council.
Knight said mayors generally viewed the proposal favorably as a tool to advance projects that otherwise would be difficult to fund, but he noted the final outcome depends on the state legislature and on voter approval at the local level.
The council did not take formal action on the proposal at this meeting; Knight said staff will follow developments during the legislative session.
