The Utah Senate adopted the Rules Committee report and, after suspending the constitutional three‑reading requirement for the day, processed dozens of bills on the second reading calendar, approving a large majority by recorded voice and roll calls.
The action began with the rules report presented and signed by Lincoln Fillmore and continued through a rapid sequence of committee and interim bills. The chamber voted to pass, under suspension of the rules, a range of bills covering land use and property ombudsman matters, reporting reductions, aging and county government rules, tax‑credit review procedures, criminal code corrections, natural resources code cleanups, and numerous technical and program extensions. Several bills were substituted on the floor before final passage.
Why it matters: The procedural move to suspend the three‑reading requirement allowed the Senate to move quickly through the calendar, sending many bills to the Utah House for consideration. Members were told that if an item proved controversial it could be removed for third reading review.
