Committee endorses SJR 9 reaffirming Utah's friendship with Taiwan

Sponsor said the resolution reaffirms Utah's subnational relationship with Taiwan and noted past agreements, including a reciprocal driver's license arrangement. Committee members and a Taiwanese-American witness expressed support. "We resolve that the legislature in the state of Utah support the strengthening of existing friendship with Taiwan on religious, economic, and cultural grounds," the sponsor read from the resolution.
Senator Quan moved to recommend the resolution favorably to the full Senate; the motion passed unanimously. The sponsor said he planned to invite a regional director from Taiwan to the floor when timing allows.
