House passes base budgets for justice and public-safety agencies

House members on Jan. 28 voted to pass House Bill 6, the FY2027 base budget for agencies overseen by the appropriations subcommittee that funds justice, corrections and related public-safety entities.
Representative Gwynn presented the bill, saying it funds eight entities including the attorney general’s office, Board of Pardons and Parole, Department of Corrections, the courts, guardian ad litem’s office, the governor’s criminal justice programs, Department of Public Safety and the Utah Communications Authority. He told members the bill appropriates about $1.35 billion across funding sources, with roughly $949.2 million from the general fund and income tax fund for operating, capital and transfers in FY2027.
The sponsor waived summation, and the House voted to pass HB 6 with an announced tally of 74 yes votes and 0 no votes. The bill will be transmitted to the Senate for consideration.
