West Valley City seeks $5 million state support to retrofit school into tactical training range

The retrofit approach reduces estimated costs from $14 million to about $7.5 million. West Valley City asked the legislature for $5 million to cover a portion of the retrofit; the proposers said they have local and private matching interest (including potential support from the Larry H. and Gail Miller Family Foundation) and letters of support from multiple police chiefs and school districts.
Representers said West Valley City would manage and maintain the facility and fund ongoing O&M through partner rentals and modest fees. Committee questions focused on long-term cleanup and operational costs (lead cleanup and O&M), and supporters said those concerns would be built into O&M budgeting.
