The Argyle Town Council on Jan. 20 approved a resolution awarding moving and relocation services to Denton County House Movers for a base bid of $25,600 to relocate a depot-style building from the Morrison tract to town-owned property on Front Street.
Staff (Harrison) explained the contractor reviewed the building, described the route (about 1.3 miles north along FM 377), and warned of planned coordination needs including raising transmission lines on 377 and arranging railroad crossing logistics at Old Justin Road. The mover indicated experience relocating similar vintage buildings and the council discussed temporary placement on town-owned parcels pending completion of a Front Street small-area plan.
Council members raised care and preservation issues; staff clarified the building is not a true 1890s historic depot but a later restaurant constructed in a railroad-depot style, and that the town will place the structure on shoring when set on town land rather than directly on native soil.
What’s next: staff will coordinate route approvals with utility providers and TxDOT and finalize contract terms; the contractor indicated schedule constraints and advised move must occur prior to May due to seasonal work.
