Allen approves security and access-control upgrades for municipal facilities

Ray Yarbrough of Community Services presented item 5.6, describing phase 2 of a city security project to improve physical security, access controls and remote monitoring at multiple facilities including the municipal service center and water towers. Yarbrough said the effort is a mix of new systems and reconfigurations of existing cameras to provide redundancy and remote monitoring.
Council members asked whether the proposal represented new installations or updates to current systems; Yarbrough said it is both—moving cameras, adopting new technology and reusing current assets where practical. The presentation noted the project aims to improve security at elevated storage tanks and other critical infrastructure and that IT and engineering teams will continue to evaluate the system after implementation.
Following a motion and second, the council voted to approve item 5.6. Staff will proceed under procurement rules to implement access-control hardware, camera relocation and related security measures under a city-managed schedule.
