Panel unanimously backs adding voter-registration information to hunting and fishing license process

Lee said the bill simply ensures that the Division of Wildlife Resources provides clear, accurate information about how to register or pre-register to vote when people apply for licenses in person or online. He and the committee debated an amendment to avoid repeatedly prompting people who are already registered; Representative McPherson moved Amendment 1 to give staff discretion for customers who are clearly already registered.
Helen Moser of the League of Women Voters testified in favor, saying the change is a low-cost way to expand registration access for rural residents and those who visit Division offices during regular hours. With no substantive public opposition in committee, members adopted Amendment 1 by voice vote and then favorably recommended HB288, as amended, by a voice vote that passed unanimously.
The committee returned HB288 to the House with a favorable recommendation and the adopted amendment clarifies that questions about registration may be directed to the Lieutenant Governor’s office and county clerks.
