West Lafayette school board hears consultant summary, debates transfer caps, capacity and referendum risks

An external consultant and school board members traded questions and data on Tuesday as the West Lafayette Com School Corp discussed options for a draft transfer (nonresident enrollment) policy and the trade-offs it could create for program quality and local funding.

Educational consultant Sherry Switzer began the session by describing how she gathered feedback from two in-person meetings (27 attendees total) and two virtual sessions (74 attendees who took part of 107 registrants). "There is definitely alignment on values," Switzer told the board, summarizing repeated priorities: clear, objective, grade-level capacity definitions; prioritizing resident students; transparent data reporting; and annual policy review. She stressed that she did not create or distribute the anonymous survey and that her presentation reflected the qualitative input she collected from those meetings.
