Board celebrates marching band championships and rising PSAT benchmarks for freshmen

Superintendent Dr. Sanders and staff celebrated the Edgewood marching band’s recent state success, noting multiple championships and community support for the program. Dr. Sanders also recognized three students named Lilly Scholarship finalists and said the district hopes for positive news regarding scholarship awards.
Assistant Superintendent Jennifer Baird presented PSAT results for ninth graders that she described as a multi‑year improvement: she said the percentage of students meeting both benchmarks has climbed 10 percentage points in two years, with math showing a 9 percent gain and ELA continuing above the state average. "That is telling us that we are heading in the right direction," Baird said, framing the results as confirmation that changes in K–8 work and instructional supports are producing results.
Baird also reported a successful flex day, strong parent‑teacher conference attendance and professional development activities including SIOP training for teachers working with multilingual learners. She said updated teacher appraisal rubrics and non‑teacher evaluation rubrics will be presented to the board in December.
The board and members of the public offered congratulations to students, staff and community partners; the meeting closed with board members expressing thanks for district efforts and Thanksgiving wishes.
