District to roll out SmartPass for high school and junior high; report shows test-score gains

The assistant superintendent also introduced SmartPass, a digital pass system to replace the existing paper-based process (Lehi Time/Flex time). SmartPass will be rolled out at Edgewood High School and Edgewood Junior High School, will permit up to two passes per student per day outside scheduled class time, and includes features for teachers to approve passes and for offices to track student locations. The district said SmartPass costs $9,153 total (about $4,500 per building) and that teacher training sessions will precede student rollout. Administrators acknowledged concerns about limiting movement and said accommodations for students with IEPs/504 plans or health plans will be preserved.
