Jennifer Barrett presented the request and said the packet shows a total cost of $56,375.87 for the three-year adoption. The initial hardback investment is about $15,600; Barrett said buying hardbacks upfront and then using e-copies thereafter reduces long-term annual costs to roughly $21 per student per year for digital copies after the initial purchase. She said the district chose a three-year cycle to avoid repeated one-year adoptions that had been expensive in the past and to align future curriculum purchases (math and science) to avoid simultaneous large expenditures.
Board members asked about state reimbursement and the effect on the education fund; Barrett said the state’s curriculum budget is folded into the education fund and the district anticipates being below the state appropriation with planned renegotiations and careful purchasing. The motion to adopt the McGraw Hill social studies materials for three years carried on voice vote.
