Edgewood board hears construction progress on new Early Childhood Center and field house

Contractors and district staff updated the Edgewood School Corporation board on the status of multiple construction projects, saying most spaces are completed and in use but several punch-list items remain.
Martin Treeville of Skillman Construction gave the report, describing the Early Childhood Center as largely finished and approved by health officials for kitchen operation, though one countertop appliance still needs lighting and signage remains to be installed. He said a playground curb held water and crews added drainage; the poured playground surface must cure for a few days before use. Treeville said the district is working through remaining punch-list items and expects some final work to continue into October, including kitchen demolition and final installations only after the new kitchen is serving meals.
At Edgewood High School, the field house (the building named in the presentation) is mostly dried in and interior work — storefront at the pool, drywall, duct sock and light installs, then flooring — remains. Treeville said phases are progressing quickly and that band and choir rooms have their floors completed, though some choir riser removal and detailing remain. He noted speed humps, bollards and some exterior finishes are installed; interior ductwork and final mechanical/electrical work are scheduled before floors go in.
Board members asked about a damaged hallway floor in the elementary (referred to in the meeting as the 'crayon hallway'). Treeville said the contractor will be back-charged, a temporary wax was applied to allow school to open, and the plan is to grind and repair the floor (with an estimate that the repair could be done within roughly a week or over fall break if needed).
District leaders repeatedly thanked the design and construction teams and emphasized keeping the buildings ready for use while completing final items. The board took no additional action beyond receiving the update.
