Governor Jared Polis outlined transportation and energy priorities, reporting more than 2,500 miles of repaved roads and a five‑fold increase in bus ridership that he said serves nearly 2.3 million annual riders. He announced a new lease and access agreement intended to begin mountain passenger rail service through the Moffat Tunnel and said initial Denver‑to‑Granby routes could begin about a year from now.
Polis framed transit investments as central to reducing congestion and emissions and tied them to his clean‑energy goals. He said Colorado now has over 204,000 electric vehicles on the road and claimed the state ranks first nationally for the share of EV sales. On electricity, he reiterated a near‑term goal that more than 70% of the state's power come from wind and solar by 2030 and called for additional transmission and emerging technologies to achieve 100% clean energy.
Polis linked transit governance and accountability reforms to better service delivery and thanked legislators and agency leaders for work on governance changes for RTD and other transit partners. He urged continued partnership between cities, transit agencies and the legislature to deliver long‑term, cost‑efficient passenger rail and transit service.
