PIGNELL, Jan. 29 — The Pignell Town council reviewed a proposed update to the town’s general plan appendix map that would add a commercial designation along portions of Highway 24.
Staff presented a map showing current (yellow) and proposed (purple) land uses and explained that the purple shading indicates proposed expansion of commercial zoning. Councilors questioned whether several small parcels — identified in discussion by the first name "Katie" — would be included. Staff clarified which properties are already zoned commercial and which parcels would change if the map is adopted.
"That's the proposed commercial area if we pass this," the facilitator said while pointing to the purple shading. Several council members asked for confirmation about the clinic and RV lots; staff said the clinic is already in a commercial zone and only a small fringe of RV lots is newly proposed. The facilitator said this item is likely to come up for a formal vote at next week’s meeting.
What’s next: Council signaled intent to vote on the proposed map at the next meeting after members have a chance to review parcel-level effects and any related notices to property owners.
